Eric Stotts - Principal

Eric Stotts NSAA, AANB, RAIC, AIA, NCARB is a Halifax-based Architect and Principal of STOTTS ARCHITECTURE.

Eric is a Registered Architect in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and holds an NCARB Certificate.

Eric was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois.  Eric received his Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University, where he completed his Preceptorship in the Paris office of the internationally-renowned Renzo Piano Building Workshop. After graduating from Rice, Eric worked for several firms in Boston and Southern California.

Eric moved to Halifax in 2005 and is a  Permanent Resident of Canada.  Prior to forming Eric Stotts Architect in 2014, Eric worked as Associate and Design Director at DSRA Architecture after being Associate at MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, both in Halifax.

Eric has over 25 years of experience on a number of educational, institutional, mixed-use residential and commercial projects.  He has a deep interest in the design and construction of sustainable, high-performing buildings, is skilled in the use and implementation of design and project management technologies and has broad experience working within an Integrated Design environment.  Eric’s collaborative team-building skills are brought to bear on each and every project.

Eric is an active member of Halifax’s well-established Arts Community, having served on the Boards of both the Performing Arts Lodge (PAL) Halifax as board co-Chair, and the Centre For Art Tapes (CFAT), and has insights into the particular needs and requirements of artists and Arts-based organizations.

Eric is also an avid hiker and deeply committed to ecologically-sound development practices and environmental stewardship. He formerly served on the Board of the Friends of the Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes (BMBCL) (https://bluemountainfriends.ca/) and continues to advocate for the preservation of this - and other - ecologically rich areas that we are so fortunate to have accessible to us here in Nova Scotia.

Eric has also served as an Adjunct Professor, thesis advisor and lecturer at the Dalhousie University School of Architecture, with a focus on Building Technology and Systems. Keenly interested in architectural drawing methods and theory, he is engaged in on-going explorations of artistic media, architectural representation and site documentation.

Eric also recognizes the importance of mentorship within the practice, and has hosted several Work-Term students from both NSCC and the Dalhousie School of Architecture.

Eric is a life-long baseball fan (Go Cards!), loves to prepare and consume BBQ, enjoys music in all its forms and has a bit of an outbuilding obsession. He shares life with his wonderful wife Pattie, his son Lincoln, his daughter Vaughn, and, of course, their dog Pixel.
